Attack of the Brown Recluse Spider – Fact and Fiction
You may have heard your sister’s best friend’s uncle was attacked by a Brown Recluse spider. In reality, brown recluse spiders do not attack people, they will defend themselves when disturbed. Typically Brown Recluse Spiders hide in dark places and are nocturnal. They like laundry that’s left on the floor, cardboard boxes, dark closets and wood piles.
When you think about the word recluse, what do you think? It makes me think of someone who likes to be alone or secludes themselves from others. A Brown Recluse Spider is the same way; it likes to hide.
When someone disturbs their hideout, the spider may bite in defense. People who have been bitten by a brown recluse often report that they put on an article of clothing in which the spider was hiding.
